My daughter just turned two and a half and is keeping me busy in all kinds of fun ways.
I recently rebuilt this website (largely keeping it with the same appearance). It was originally built using Middleman, which had become hard to use and update. I hadn't added any photos since 2017. I finally rebuilt it using Next.js, demoted the stale homepage to "old index" and put the pairs on the homepage. I guess partly to make me feel less guilty if it goes stale again because every time you view the homepage you will see a new set of images. I've added 2018-2020 to the heap and am slowly working on 2021-2026.
I recently merged all my film scan Lightroom catalogs. I originally had one catalog per year starting in 2008, and then later one catalog for every roughly 4 years. Segmenting like this somehow made sense but it was difficult to work across spans of time. This year I finally organized them into a single catalog of about 1000 rolls from 2008-2026.
That made me think more about the random-pairing strategy I keep returning to (occasionally with prints which is kind of best, but there's also something to running it on a huge group of images that becomes impractical to print). Historically I was using a single-purpose web app where I drop a bunch of images into a folder and view the pairs via a non-public web interface, however the export/setup friction would sometimes feel limiting. I've long had the idea to integrate a pairs tool into Lightroom directly and I finally built that out as a Lightroom plugin. If you use LrC please try it out: https://lightroom-pairs.alibosworth.com.
I scan everything on my Pakon F135+ as initial scans, then rescan as needed on a Minolta 5400. When I was in Toronto I would scan occasionally on Gallery 44's Imacon. In 2016 I made a small tool called PPRC to get better/more data out of the F135+, but I was always somewhat limited by the underlying negative inversion tool it used (negfix8), so I recently rolled my own inversion engine for PPRC, which has made room for all kinds of improvements.
